Natural Language Processing Crew

The NLP Crew is focused on building sharable corpora, theoretical work, and implementations of NLP and AI solutions for African and low resources languages. NLP Crew is located at University of Abomey Calavi (UAC) in Benin. We meet online weekly and in person once a quarter. (Please send us an email if you're willing to join.)

Main Goals

Collect and Share Data

Data is the first step in the development of any NLP model. So we're putting our energy into collecting data from African languages and sharing it with everyone.

Do NLP research

Secondly, we're putting a real effort into building efficient NLP models using approaches that are suitable for African or low-resources languages and tailored our needs.

Build NLP Apps

As soon as we have interesting models, we can focus in the creation of social utility applications with a strong economic impact, without overlooking ethical issues.

Teach NLP and AI

In parallel, we are initiating training programs in NLP and AI to build capacity that will be critical in the development and dissemination of these technologies in Africa.
